| A room with a partial ocean view |
|
I've always chuckled at that description. Early on in my industry career I learned what it meant: IF your window opens and you can get your body sorta out the window and twist it mightily, you will see a bit of the ocean. Too often I've been in a room which may be comfortable but has a "view" of the .. dumpster, or the parking garage, or the top of another part of the building, or a window of an adjacent building. I used "view" in quotes because although something can be seen, it is not exactly what is enjoyable. Most of us who travel for work are up at "o'dark hundred" and not in bed until it is much after dark on the other side of the clock. Sometimes a view is not as important as being near an elevator to get to and from your room easily, or a room on a quiet floor so a good night's sleep is possible. When I read this article in the 9.6.08 Washington Post I was so excited and wondered if any hotels had done this yet. Brilliant .. good for the environment and fabulous for viewing. How nice it would be to look out on a garden - maybe even one on a portion of the hotel's room and be able to see vegetables and herbs being grown. Think too of the wonderful scents of fresh herbs that could waft to your room if the windows only opened. Have you heard of any hotels doing this? Post it! And then send the link to this blog or the article along to many in the hotel business and to CVBs/DMOs and city councils. We can make cities greener while we make views more palatable.
