Superb banquet food! but ... Saturday, 12 July 2008 Written by JoanEisenstodt - Top 10 Reviewer Then let's move on to the positive: - Excellent front desk staff: Informed, aware of the reason for walk situations (but I don't think they'd have said if I hadn't revealed that I knew the industry.) - Superb banquet food - breakfast and lunch. We were all impressed with the quality, appearance and taste. Only kvetch: icky bagels! I know Indy is not NYC but I am sure there's a good deli that makes real bagels. - Suzanne - Banquet Captain - is THE best with whom I've ever worked. Really. She was a "Radar O'Reilly" type - who saw it and did it before you knew it needed to be done. If you do a meeting there, insist she be part of the team. - Very nice lobby and public space - lots of places to sit in small groups or as an individual to read, work on a laptop, etc., and very nice artwork throughout. Now .. the disappointments: 1) The "Heavenly Bed"(TM) may have been heavenly when the hotel first put them in but they are wearing out. It didn't even feel as good as our good mattress at home. And the king pillow case on a standard pillow .. kept coming untucked. 2) NO above the floor outlet by the desk! This shocked me. I could've sworn that Westin did relatively heavenly desks too. 3) The outlet near the desk had only 1 receptical that worked directly. That is, the other one had to be activated by turning the switch at the door ..which also turned on an overhead light! To charge anything (if I'd not had my own surge protector w/ multiple plugs) would have meant leaving the light on overnight. No sign in the room w/ instructions. 4) The room had wireless internet but it didn't say that - and the plug from the ethernet cable was broken. 5) Room service: out of simple items on two different nights and early in the evening; overdressed salads (even when I asked for dressing on the side) - ugh ... and no rolls or bread w/ the salad that was an entree. Servers were great tho'. 6) The proverbial brass band was above us: Ok.. it wasn't exactly a brass band - but a religious organization that used drums and amps w/ their music 3x/day and were directly over us .. and our meeting was an intense planning meeting. (It might have been worse had our client's meeting planner not intervened w/ the GM when the planner saw a grand piano and the drums being set up in the room next door. (Note: we had booked a fab room w/ windows .. which sustained water damage the night before the meeting and had to be moved.) 7) The desk phone had constant static - annoying. 8) And one of my major pet peeves: my laundry was delivered into my room even tho' my DND was off. I had stayed at this hotel in Jan. '06 (?) when PCMA had their Annual Meeting there. It felt like (tho' I've not confirmed it) either there are new owners or the owners are maximizing their revenue. Even the towels were frayed .. and thin .. so not like Westin. Look cautiously. Find out if they have some upgrades for the rooms in process. And ask for Suzanne to be your banquet captain AND reward her .. there is no one as good. Duration:
1-3 Days
