As a participant at the ASAE/Center Global Summit on Social Responsibility at the newly opened Gaylord National, I was curious to see how it was. (I had negotiated contracts for clients for future years w/ them pre-opening.)

First impression: It's gorgeous.. just the setting is so nice, right on the banks of the Potomac. The hotel upon entering is bright and airy - with lots of windows looking out at the River. There were door and bell staff readily available and the front desk staff was friendly and helpful.

Next impressions: Good bank of elevators, all seemed to be operating. Guest room hall ways are bright and well-marked.

I confess to being a bit disappointed in the guestroom - tho' I was told it would be a River view, it was what one hears is a 'partial ocean view' - LOL - I had to look in a pretty convoluted body position! It was a pretty ordinary room tho' nicely done. It was missing some things (coffee pot and cups for example.)

Staff was responsive to needs, checking back often to ensure that what was missing was there.

Another positive: The Hotel agreed to hire some (high) percentage of people from the MD county in which it is located. They have hired a diverse workforce - diverse in every way and across positions and rank. Kudos!

It took little time to get there from downtown DC - surprisingly. Nice. And convenient to DCA.

Food was excellent - both plated, boxed, and buffet; breakfasts and lunches. Room service is fair - they need some more choices. Room service and banquet staff were excellent - friendly, efficient. I did recommend to the Hotel that they STRONGLY help banquet staff learn not to put items w/ nuts near other items and to be careful about cross contamination of service pieces.

Overall, was very pleased. They are still working out kinks and I think will continue to improve.
