The view of the Utah mountains was lovely. The beds were truly the best in wihch I've ever slept - even better than those that are touted as, well, you know. The bed linens were (tho' I did not check) 1 million thread count - ok.. an exaggeration but I could have stayed under the covers for a long time. Food was very good. Service was, overall, excellent and people went out of their way to help.

A service excellence example: a colleague was flying into the meeting. She sent me a message that she had lost her voice. I called the 'help' line and asked them to have tea and honey for her and if they could please get chicken broth. (The only soups on the menu were both cream based.) They did.

The meeting space is well-designed and many of the meeting rooms have exterior views of the mountains. Of course, as an IACC-approved property, they have many rooms with ergonomic chairs, hard service writing tables, tackable wall surfaces and continuous breaks. There is additional larger space to use for events and it was well-designed tho' a walk down many steps was required to get there. (I learned after the fact that one could get in the property's van - which they also use to transport to the chalets - to be driven down.)

It's a green property and I loved the bags for recycling in each guest room. Alas, I did not see receptacles for more than glass/plastic in the meeting space. The difficulty was that lighting in the room was not so good for aging-reader-glass-wearing eyes.

It's a bit of a schlep from the SLC airport - about an hour in a van. Some vans stop at more than this property since they are not Zermatt-operated. That can be annoying after a long trip.

I was disappointed in the continuous break areas which were not imaginative (in design, food or decor) nor continuous - food disappeared pretty quickly. The property is still relatively new so maybe they are working on it.

The cautions: it's an interesting design. While there, I learned that the Swiss had settled that area of Utah in the 1800s and thus the property is named Zermatt and is fashioned after a Swiss chalet. "Interesting" because, well, it felt a bit like Heidi meets the Wild West in the guest rooms and lobbby. I'm not sure how the theme worked - it seemed a bit 'mixed' - and I did hear that the owner is a fascinating (and bit eccentric) person.

Were I to use this for a client group, I would check EVERY single guest room for view - mine was on the first floor of the main building (good for a short walk to the conference building) and (bad) faced the kitchen exit, trash receptacles, staff parking, and had 2 very bright street lights just outside. More, it was where employees went to smoke (it's a non-smoking property - a plus) which meant I could not open my windows. I would pre-assign guest rooms one by one, leaving the worst rooms for last and certainly not for VIPs! (I don't think that they sold for any less than rooms on higher floors in the same building.) A colleague asked for a room w/ a balcony and got one - that overlooked a dirty farm behind the property. My friend's hope of leaving the doors open for air or going out for fresh air were gone - it wasn't fresh!

I was only there 3 nights; perhaps there longer and in a different room, I might have seen it differently. It has possibilities and for groups that ski, should be considered.. as long as you see every room and ask lots of questions.
