The American Academy of Pediatrics held their Annual Leadership Forum this past week/weekend at the Renaissance Schaumburg Hotel and Convention Center--"Where the Heartland Meets the 21st Century". The hotel is a short transfer from O'Hare International Airport and close to the enormous Woodfield Mall in Chicago's NW Suburbs. It's the 2nd year that the Association has held this VIP/Leadership Meeting there (the hotel is less than 2 years old) and we have just signed contracts for the following 2 years at the same property.

This political meeting consists of approximately 500 Top Pediatricians and Executive Directors from around North America who meet annually to vote on health care issues for all kids/teenagers. For those of you who have children--or just read newspapers/magazines and watch TV--there are many issues that the AAP is involved in, and constantly quoted in the media. "Back to Sleep," car seat issues, vaccines and immunizations, childhood obesity, nuclear weapons, autism are some of the hot topics these days and they are decided upon at this meeting--so very high profile and worldly.

The hotel did a fantastic job all-around!! Security was efficient and professional (AAP's meeting was ICW a Harley Motorcycle Show in the Convention Center!!!). Sleeping rooms are clean, modern and well-equipped. Public space, restaurants, bar and meeting space are state-of-the-art and easy to use/divide/open up as large ballrooms, etc. Food and beverage is great-looking and tasting--amazing presentations for large numbers--and very visible Chef's throughout the meeting who take great pride in their catering. Most of all, the service was excellent. My Event Manager was involved in this same meeting last year, so although it was my first time around with this meeting, he remembered the quirks, turns and guests. The Director of Operations and his staff were friendly and professional and the banquet captains/staff were outstanding!

Although this is a very complicated and political meeting to plan/execute, I'm so glad that we're planning to return to this property in the future to repeat the success I just experienced.

Kudos to the Schaumburg Renaissance and Convention Center!!!
