The first meeting I ever did at this hotel was shortly after it opened in the early '80s. I had been back since but not for a few years and was tremendously surprised and impressed with the scope of renovation and changes.

The meeting: 100 mostly association professionals (with a few corporate folks and consultants) gathered to do some intense work on diversity issues.

Lobby and greeting: I arrived by cab from the train station and was pleased to have someone take my luggage out of the cab and offer assistance. The front door was well-staffed - not seen so much in hotels today and even less in Dec.
There was a special check-in area in the lobby for our group where we were pre-keyed and there were snacks and beverages.
The lobby and other areas of floors of the atrium have what appear to be 'zen-like' plantings: bamboo, rocks, other interesting plants. It gives it a soft and open feel.
Nice to have lots of seating areas in the lobby where one could gather with colleagues as they arrived.

Guest room: I asked for and had a double-double that was large and comfortable. In addition to the beds, there was a good desk with FOUR outlets above the floor (HOORAY!), wi-fi, and good desk lighting. A good and comfortable chair was at the desk. A second chair and a chaise with a light above it were also there so you didn't have to sit at the desk or on the bed for reading. The desk had 'bars' around the bottom so that I could secure my laptop w/ the cable .. another HOORAY! Desks w/ only legs are not conducive to doing so.
Bathroom: Nice renovation! Very sleek sink area and shower - with very attractive tile work. Good lighting. Only complaint: the toilet was low -- and for anyone w/ bad knees or anyone tall, it would not be great. But that's a small kvetch!

OH and the book about the hotel in my room was missing the security section. A no-no!

Meeting: The meeting space was in a section of the ballroom so it was .. meeting space. It did seem pretty quiet and there were other groups (albeit smaller ones) in house. I think the group didn't ask for the room to be refreshed bec. I saw housemen around but little was touched at our (way too short) breaks.
F&B: Really good! The upgraded continental breakfast each day included either omelets, egg sandwiches, or individual (large) quiches onto which you could put toppings such as crab meat, tomatoes, artichoke hearts and many more options. There was fresh fruit, pastries, bagels, lox, and other goodies. The staff was great: I wanted a large glass of ice so I could make iced coffee and a colleague wanted a soda and it was done .. easily. Breaks had some great food - good healthy and not-so options - and lunch each day was excellent. The one reception had (ummmmmm) cheese grits, collards, sweet potato slices, crab cakes (had to .. it was Bal'mer!), scallops, and many other options. It was held in Pices, their top floor space with a wonderful view of the Harbor.
ONLY suggestion and I think this was more the group than the hotel: the food should have been labeled AND there should not have been so many items at breaks and on the tables w/ nuts.

Service was excellent. The GM is terrific and came to talk w/ people and was willing to listen to suggestions.

I rarely rate things this high but I would absolutely, based on this experience, the location, size and type of hotel, recommend it for an association, corporate or govt. meeting .. or really any event. OH.. they also have a Kosher kitchen.
Duration: 1-3 Days
