Economic news continues to hit our industry

A spate of articles today in just one of the news services (bizjournals.com) I receive:
From Boston, news of cuts of personnel at tourist attractions and the CVB. And it's the state where there is a proposition (Massachusetts Question 1) on the ballot to again vote on eliminating the state income tax which will further decimate the budget.
From Birmingham, AL, news about a potential increase in rates at hotels.
Even air travel is down says this article from the San Antonio biz journal.
And of course that means that airport hotel occupancy is down - or at least it is in St. Louis.
In this article, it's called the "...kind of a financial 9/11...."
The trickle down impact will hit us all. When service workers have their hours cut because occupancy is low, how will meetings and business travelers manage?
Without staffing at tourist attractions and CVBs, then what?
Shouldn't there be more conversation about this?
