Doing the right thing ...

in a time of financial hardship is tough.

When I first moved to DC, I listened to some industry colleagues talk about padding their expense accounts because, well, they thought they deserved the extra money.

Today, I listen to planners who, believing they are not paid enough and that they work harder than their salaries indicate, rationalize taking (airline, hotel) points so that they can have some time off using the points earned as a result of the work they are paid to do.

There are even cases of employees setting up side companies and seeking (and securing!) commission on the very meetings they are being paid to book and manage!

Rushworth Kidder and the Institute for Global Ethics always have good thoughts about what to do in almost any circumstance.  "Ethics in a time of crisis" is just such an article.  Read it, send it on to others, and talk about it.  [And if you are reading this and attending the FICP meeting in Cancun in November, join Kelly Bagnall, Esq., and me at a session about ethics and legalities.]
