In the meetingscollaborative.com discussion boards, we're having a good discussion about destination selection and the current state of the economy. 

We know that there are air fares and added travel fees to consider.  Hotel room rates and other charges seem to be stable (v. rising or decreasing.) 

The bigger considerations to me are the health and safety of those who attend our meetings.  Safety


Have you been watching the Democratic National Convention? Read anything about it in print or on the web?  Talked with colleagues who are there - either as delegates, guests, demonstrators, or volunteers?

Did you watch the Olympics and follow what went on .. beyond sports?  Did you watch to see how crowds were handled?

For years, I've wondered when our industry would take note of the risk management issues inherent in all we do.  Food safety, something most think little about (until they get a dose of food poisoning), is rarely discussed among industry colleagues. 

When first confronted with our RFP where it asks about food safety and inspections of kitchens, many properties ask if we are serious.

Uh huh. 


Following up on the blog I wrote this weekend was this superb article from the 18 May, 2008 Washington Post.  Read it and then sit down and prepare - for yourself, for your homelife, for your community and for your meetings and facilities.

We're far from prepared and I'm gonna beat this drum until we are.
