Everyone wants to paint a rosier than it is picture on the industry and the economy.  I've been looking for things to write and have only heard some of the not-so-good stories.

Today's summary from bizjournals.com had a few stories that portray some of the problems, one of which has an upside for anyone who needs to book in San Francisco in August 2o09.

It happened again .. at the convention center in a major city just the other day.  It seems to happen almost everywhere. 

 This week it was the 'turkey wrap sandwich' which had that strange stuff on it that restaurants - and even room service in the best hotels - call what they put on a club sandwich.  They tell you it's real turkey when you order - and  when the in-room dining server brings your


Why do we think that hotels, convention centers, conference centers and other venues are going to be able to negotiate 'deals' as if it were November 2001?

The market was soft then, after the terrorist attacks on the United States.  Airlines were back with flights but many companies were still canceling or postponing meetings and business travel.  We were all more cautious about what business we


American Airlines announced the new first checked bag charges - for all but a few classes of passengers.  It raised a ruckus - esp. on the MiForum listserv where many discussed a boycott of AA.

What concerns me more - much more - is the number of flights being cut and the cities that will have no air service - by AA or DL or UA or other airlines that are cutting the less prosperous routes.
