This was an executive level meeting of mostly association execs and industry suppliers. The resort was well laid out and appointed. The golf course wrapped around the resort. From front desk to sleeping rooms and meeting space, it was satisfactory.
The saguaro cacti were spectacular!

Grand Hyatt San Antonio: Technology Dream Hotel

This hotel had some issues with opening on time but they were able to overcome those issues with a fabulous facility that stands tall in its own right.
The lobby is hugely spacious with little furniture that may be an issue for some but was fine. You are able to check yourself into your hotel room with kiosks like at the airport.
The reader boards not only tell you where the meetings are being held but also show you on a map of the hotel how to find a particular meeting room. Had not seen this before and it was a great help to the attendees.
The rooms are barnd new with ebnergy saving lights that turn themselves off if they do not detect any movement in the room after a certain timeframe. Great GREEN IDEAS that save time, energy and assisted us with a fabulous program. THANKS for the great job Hyatt!

JW Marriott San Antonio Hill Country Resort & Spa (Opens March 2010): Pre-Opening Site Visit

Attending a pre-opening site visit to the new JW Marriott San Antonio Hill Country Resort & Spa. The hotel is still under construction and is due for a soft opening in January 2010 and will start taking groups in March 2010.

Hotel is located north of the San Antonio airport and transport time is no more than 15 minutes. Resort sits on top of a hill in the Hill Country and has spectacular views in all directions. Very green and lush area and much of the area around the resort is "protected land" so there will not be a lot of additional development.

Resort features 1002 guestrooms including 85 suites. Meeting space is approximately 150,000 sq. ft. and all space is cllustered in one section of the resort. Having nice weather in San Antonio for much of the year has also provided for three outdoor "dining / event" areas where full catering can occur.

Resort has two TPC golf courses (Pete Dye and Jack Nicholas) and is the "greenest" courses in in the world. The golf courses feature a closed loop watering system whereas the water is collected naturally, used to water the courses and the run off is absorbed backed into the system, filtered and reused. The Resort has features a very large spa with 30 treatment rooms. There will also be three pools including an adult only and a "experience river" for guests to "float the day away".

Just north of the resort is a working ranch called the Knibbe Ranch and Marriott has partered with the ranch and have built a replica of a Hill Country Dance Hall. Very rustic but with every modern amenity. Full kitchen service so no need to off-site catering. The best news is that your catering spend at the ranch will be part of any F&B minimum at the resort.

I for one can't wait to book some room nights.

3/19/2007 The staff was phenomenal!!! I can honestly say, this is the first hotel I've ever worked with that never said no onsite. If you needed somethin, it didn't matter what the person's job was...they did it...sometimes they even volunteered to do something for you. A++++++++++++++ for the staff!!!
