Evening networking event - space on 2nd floor is cramped and pre function area tight - F&B was ok but should have been better. Location of hotel is central to midtown. Staff at front desk were efficient but not overly friendly. All was OK but not great!

Grand Hyatt Hotel New York: Good solid midtown Manhattan property

The Grand Hyatt New York has really stepped up in the past year to make their meeting experiences better. All of the space has recently been renovated and the service level is greatly improved over some experiences several years ago. While trying to direct people to some of the meeting space can be a little tricky because of the atrium openings, this is a very large hotel that doesn't feel like it. Because of this same layout, you are very rarely interacting with other groups (unless using adjacent rooms). Would recommend this property to anyone needing a good, solid property in midtown that you know will take care of you well.

However, they were often difficult/impossible to reach by telephone; telephone messages were never promptly returned. E-mail communications, likewise, failed to be answered in a timely manner.

9/24/2007 Group sales was excellent; catering/CSM department is short-staffed; business center personnel need better training in being welcoming and "hospitable"; bell staff short-handed; most of the hotel staff was excellent (i.e., housekeeping, front desk, doormen, night duty managers, etc.). Sleeping rooms were outstanding (for New York!).

8/8/2007 I’ve broken my feedback into two separate groups, function 1 and function 2. FUNCTION #1: I'll start with the rooms, standard rooms are EXTREMELY undersized and lacked sufficient storage space which we learned upon our arrival for the first meeting (the hotel website make the rooms look beautiful). The first meeting room setup was not ideal for our group, the room was TOO dark and isolated. The meeting/banquet staff did the best that they could to accommodate our first group which was difficult given the level of disappointment in the accommodations. Our meeting materials where not delivered to the meeting room the evening before as I had specified in our meeting requirements and the business center lacks a dedicated staff person and essential equipment (i.e. copy machine, floppy drive) which made getting things done difficult as we were directed to the concierge to get photo copies. My first attempt to do so I was told that I couldn't make over 10 copies of something and the staff person was extremely rude until I notified them that we had a function in the hotel. In addition, the hotel front desk staff and the restaurant host were rude. FUNCTION #2: After our first experience we made many modifications to this program. For this meeting we upgraded to studio suites which were fine, although hotel rooms were changed without prior notice due to the hotel being oversold. Like the sleeping rooms we made changes to the meeting space based on our first experience. The second meeting space worked out much better as it had natural lighting. Again the meeting/banquet staff for our second meeting were fantastic. I would recommend this hotel for a younger/hipper crowd, but this property is definitely inadequate for the needs of the ACGME.
