Westin River North Hotel Chicago: Excellent Customer Service

Our meeting was September 3-5, 2008 at the Westin Chicago River North. Our total pick up was 337 rooms. We used all the meeting space on the lower level and one other room as a speaker ready room. I was very impressed with the staff this property. The doorman, James, was so personable and helpful. The GM not only attended our pre-con meeting but also offered great assistance throughout the meeting. The banquet staff had everything under control at all times and I never had to worry about something not being ready on time. On top of that, they were very kind, courteous, and pleasant. They actually smiled and seemed to enjoy their jobs instead of being ho-hum and dull. Linda, one of the banquet captains, helped me disassemble silk sign holders and pack them up ready for return shipping. They wouldn't dream of seeing me do it on my own. The entire staff looked for ways of helping you get your job done. After being at another Westin property in Arlington, VA the year before and not having a great experience, this was incredibly refreshing. I will return to this property whenever I can. My CSM was good too. Very helpful. After much cost negotiations we used the onsite AV company, PSAV, and were very pleased with our service. The sales person, Leanne was very attentive and helpful as were the two AV techs we had in the plenary session. It's hard to impress me with AV staff but these guys, Abel and Brandon, were great. The food at this property was also top notch. Our high level guests and event sponsors were happy. This property is a few blocks off Michigan Ave. but it has a lot of good restaurants close by and is well worth the trip. That is, of course, once you get over the sticker shock of Chicago prices!

Marriott O'hare Hotel Chicago: Pushed out at the Marriott

Overall rating is a 1 - not good.

We have used this hotel many times in the past with all good reviews but recently the hotel notified us the a meeting we had contracted (10 days out from meeting start date) was going to have to change all our space due to another booking the hotel accepted. Due to very specific space requirements the meeting was not able to accept the new space and we had to do some quick research and re-book it elsewhere.

I totally support a hotel wanting to manage the best business opportunity they can get but once you are contracted the hotel should not push one long term client out for a once in a life time meeting.

The real issue at hand was the way the hotel handled the situation and that they made litle to no effort to resolve. They wanted us to cancel with no penalty and that is what they got.

Very pleased with this hotel overall - great location and great service. Front desk in particular were very efficent with great attitude. Checked in late morning and was happy that room was ready and the process was quick and simple. Great location although Chicago needs to add a Staples or some computer store downtown - had to Schlepp out to no where to get a new laptop charger - hotel could have offered as well.

Would def recommend this hotel to anyone coming to town!

This hotel was wonderful. Their organization and attention was over the top. There were not problems. None with the hotel at all. Everyone at the hotel knew who to call if there was a question and our guests had no idea ther may have been a question. I wish we could go back again. The rooms are incredible. The service was exceptional. The food was great! The bar is great! I hope you can tell I loved it there.

10/10/2007 The James Hotel is not suitable for business stays. There is not enough lighting, no desks, not enough counter space in some rooms for toiletries not enough power outlets in the sleeping area. Personnel was snippy to a few of my committee members re: several different things. I ended up losing my reservation one evening because I was unable to get to my room to get ready because one of the main elevators was broken and the line for the other one was very long. I have another group staying there in November...and I am VERY worried.
