I, too, have been surprised at the lack of noise around this topic in the meetings industry. I just returned from our largest event of the year. It was in a second tier city and our attendance was about 20% lower than planned. In addition, the flight options were so limited that many folks ended up missing the last day of the program so they could catch a flight and be home at a reasonable hour. There's been a lot of internal discussion about how to integrate a virtual meetings component with our face-to-face meetings. I'm sure other corporations are exploring the same.
